Original 1/2 leather with marbled boards, front board nearly detached. 403 pp., 18 (of 19) maps, 10 (of 11) plates. Lacks 2 leaves (pp. 47-50). It appears that these two leaves, along with one map and one plate in that location, were never bound into this copy. This is among the earliest American guidebooks which describes a railroad, in this instance the Mauch Chunk Railway, nine miles long at this time, which was the second operating railroad in the United States.
