Original cloth with leather spine label, front board nearly detached, front blank detached. The spine label is split and torn. 368 pp., folding frontispiece map. Fore edge and bottom edge untrimmed. Bookplate inside the front cover of the New York State Lunatic Asylum, of which Amariah Brigham (1798-1849), the author, was the first superintendent. While there, he founded the American Journal of Insanity in July 1844. The present title served as a compendium of the existing knowledge of epidemic cholera. The map “Chart Shewing the Progress of the Spasmodic Cholera” is a map divided into two sections, the eastern United States on the left, Europe, Africa, and most of Asia on the right, with red lines drawn on it. There might be an explanation of the lines in the text, but there is none on the map itself. DAB III: 42-3.
